PHOTOGRAPHER │PRINTMAKER │FILMMAKER
I make photographs and handmade prints rooted in analogue photographic processes.
My current practice centers on hybrid digital/analog techniques, darkroom methods and the possibilities that emerge when historical processes meet contemporary photography. I am interested in images with material presence: prints made slowly, by hand, with room for accident, variation and experiment.
Cyanotypes and analogue photography
I create hybrid digital/analogue cyanotype photographs, combining digitally prepared negatives with hand-coated paper and UV exposure.
Each print is made through a physical process in which chemistry, paper, light and time shape the final image. The result is never entirely repeatable—and that is part of its character.
Workshops
I teach practical workshops in cyanotype and alternative photographic printing for photographers, artists, schools and creative groups.
Workshops range from introductory sessions for people new to cyanotype printmaking to advanced courses in calibrated digital negatives and repeatable alternative-process workflows.

I also make independent films and occasional commissioned moving-image work.
My film practice is selective and project-led, with a focus on artist portraits, documentary, experimental work and subjects that benefit from a slower, more considered approach.
About Me
Caio Simbula is a Stockholm-based photographer, printmaker and filmmaker. His background spans photography, film, television, visual effects and arts education. He holds an MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State University and is a member artist at KKV Stockholm.
